Information about RPG Research, staff, volunteers, board, philosophy, mission, vision, etc. Our staff of more than 50 volunteers across 4 continents are "helping people heal & improving the quality of life for diverse populations around the world by providing accessible & inclusive collaborative research-supported programs using music and role-playing games." We use a research-driven approach to create inclusive and accessible programs that measurably improve people’s lives through music and role-playing games. Online since 2004. Our founder has been studying the effects of all RPG formats since 1983, providing in-school programs since 1985, and therapeutic programs since 2004. Experimenting with various RPG formats since the 1970s, a recreational therapist with a background in nursing, habilitation therapy, computer sciences, neurosciences, research psychology, music & recreation therapy. RPG Research is a 501(c)3 non-profit research & human services charitable organization. Our staff study the effects of all role-playing game (RPG) formats: tabletop (TRPG), live-action (LRPG), solo adventure books/modules (SABM), electronic (ERPG), & many hybrids (HRPG). Since 2004 our website has provided an open, free, international repository of research information. We take a multidisciplinary approach to our programs. Based on the available research, our community programs help people achieve their educational, recreational, and therapeutic goals, measurably improving their quality of life.

RPG Research's founder was introduced to role-playing gaming in 1977 with the original Dungeons & Dragons (retronym OD&D), with the first kernels of RPG comunity programs organized by the founder around the same year, beginning to create computer program-based (Electronic) RPGs around 1979, researching methods for optimizing the RPG experience, including using various technologies around 1979 as well, becoming a paid professional game master around 1982, beginning to research the effects and uses of RPGs around 1983, and teaching role-playing gaming in a school 5 days a week in 1985 really helping to form the foundation of what would later become the RPG Research Project Community website in 2004...
